• How to remove and re-install the Take Control agent on a remote device.

Environment

• SolarWinds N-central
  • Take Control

Solution

• Using the N-central UI to uninstall and re-install:
  1. Select the desired device;
  2. Go to Settings > Properties (as of 2021, this has been moved to Remote Control Settings >> General);
  3. Uncheck the option Install Take Control;
  4. Click SAVE;
  5. Click ADD TASK> Update Asset Info;
  6. Wait a few moments so the uninstall command takes action on the remote end;
     • This can vary from 2 minutes to 15 minutes depending on the remote environment;
  7. Go to Settings > Properties (as of 2021, this has been moved to Remote Control Settings >> General);
  8. Check Install Take Control;
  9. Click SAVE;
  10. Click ADD TASK > Update Asset Info;
  11. Wait for a few minutes (similar to step 6)
• If the issue is not resolved, follow the steps below.

1. Select the desired device.
2. Go to Settings > Properties;
3. Uncheck the option Install Take Control;
4. Wait a few moments so the uninstall command takes action on the remote end;
5. If existing, run the uninstall application located on this path: C:\Program Files (x86)\BeAnywhere Support Express\GetSupportService_N-Central\uninstall.exe
   • You can run this file remotely & silently using the Command Line option from the Tools > Command Prompt in N-central by running the commands:
     • 64-bit systems:

       1. cd "C:\Program Files (x86)\BeAnywhere Support Express\GetSupportService_N-Central"

       2. C:\Program Files (x86)\BeAnywhere Support Express\GetSupportService_N-Central> uninstall.exe /S

     • 32-bit systems:​
       1. cd "C:\Program Files\BeAnywhere Support Express\GetSupportService_N-Central"
       2. C:\Program Files\BeAnywhere Support Express\GetSupportService_N-Central> uninstall.exe /S
6. If existing, delete the ProgramData folder and the BA Agent folder respectively:
   • C:\ProgramData\GetSupportService_N-Central
   • C:\Program Files (x86)\BeAnywhere Support Express\GetSupportService_N-Central
7. Go to Settings > Properties;
8. Check Install Take Control;
9. Click SAVE;
10. Click ADD TASK > Update Asset Info;
11. Wait until the installation completes.
